Why are my heels painful?
My Father’s had it. I’ve had it. My fiancé has had it. As a Podiatrist I see on average 5-6 clients a week with it.
Heel pain is uncomfortable and can interfere with your life from the first step out of bed in the morning, long into the day.
But what is it?
Well here’s the thing; there are many different causes of heel pain.
Most people will have heard of Plantar Fasciitis, and possibly plugged it into google. However Plantar Fasciitis is just one of a number of conditions that can be responsible for heel pain.
As stated earlier my Father, fiancé and I have all experienced heel pain, and we all had different causes.
Achilles Tendinopathy, Plantar Fasciitis and nerve entrapment were the causes of our individual suffering, and had it not be for accurate diagnosis and specific targeted treatment we may all have suffered longer.
If you are experiencing heel pain or discomfort, ensure that you are diagnosed correctly and start your targeted treatment as soon as possible.
On your first appointment at Active Health Podiatry you can expect to spend 45 minutes with our Podiatrist. You will be asked some key questions that will give a history of your pain. A thorough assessment will then be undertaken looking at your overall posture, the way you are walking, and the function of all the joints and muscles in your lower limb and foot. We may require you to get an x-ray or ultrasound. We will look at your footwear, so be sure to bring your usual shoes in with you.
Using all the gathered information we will then sit down and discuss the diagnosis, and contributing factors. We will recommend the best treatment options, and set management goals. It is important that you know approximate timeframes in your recovery, and options that we have up our sleeve if required.
You will walk out with a management plan in your hand and this will be your guide to recovery, which we will review at each consultation.
